We work with you to customize care to your needs! Generally speaking, we provide care for families with babies in the first year, although when families have support from the jump (from bringing baby home!) they usually find their baby will be sleeping 10 or more continuous hours within 3-5 months!
-
We offer various packages, with our best rates for families seeking the most frequent care.
For trial nights and short-term care, our rates are $45-50 hourly, depending on singletons or multiples.
For families booking a package of support, we offer a reduced rate per hour depending on the volume of care booked.
Our rates reflect the quality of care and expertise of our team, and we strive to provide affordable options for all families in need of overnight newborn care. -
As much sleep as possible, for baby and you!
When your baby is hungry, your night-time doula, experienced and knowledgable with nursing support, will provide a diaper change then will gently wake you to breastfeed. She can provide care and assistance with latch and nursing if helpful. While you’re feeding she can also give you privacy and ensure you’re well nourished with a snack and a refill of your water or tea. We always center your needs and desires in our care.
When your baby is satisfied, your nighttime doula will bring them back to their sleep space and help them to get back to sleep. After and between feedings, she will soothe baby, taking care of diapering, burping, and helping your baby back to sleep, all the while helping your baby to grow their sleep skills (ie nursing efficiently and having good long sleeps between!). She will remain right with them, keeping watch over your precious little one. When baby is soundly sleeping, your doula will rest in the same room baby is in, ensuring that their room stays peaceful and quiet for maximum rest for baby. -
As much sleep as possible, for baby and you!
When your baby is hungry, your night-time doula will use best practices to feed your baby, preparing the formula you use or preparing bottles of expressed milk if you are pumping. Depending on the needs of your baby and yourself, either throughout the night or in the morning she will clean and sanitize all of the bottles, pump parts, and will take care of any overnight related chores such as storing, organizing, and freezing expressed milk. We center your needs and desires in our care.
When your baby is satisfied, your nighttime doula will burp and change baby as needed, then help them to get back to sleep. Between feedings, she will soothe baby, taking care of diapering, soothing, and helping your baby back to sleep, all the while helping your baby to grow their sleep skills (ie waking less and less between feeds and having good long sleeps between!).

Yes! The Serene Team that is supporting your family will work with you and your baby, under the supervision of Cheryl & Nicky, on what we call sleep conditioning.
Our process is tailored to improving sleep from where-ever your baby is starting, and can help them sort out days vs. nights (many babies seem to be born with their sleep a bit upside-down!), help them stretch out their sleep cycles, ensure your baby establishes a predictable and reliable bedtime, help them fall back to sleep when startled, and gently and effectively help them grow into wonderful sleepers. -
Yes, we absolutely keep you informed of how your baby is doing overnight, although typically we do so in the morning so you are able to sleep!
For some families this will be a face-to-face debriefing in the morning, and for others it will be written logs. If you’re closely tracking details, your night-time doula can keep your own log-book up to date each night, or can log entries into an app that you use for keeping track of baby’s stats.
*Please note that if you are using an app, we request the availability of a tablet or old phone to make entries on. -
Typically, the chores your Serene Bebe night-time doula will do are related to the immediate overnight needs of the baby and/or mom.
These may include cleaning, sanitizing, and storing any bottle/pumping related dishes, refreshing your diaper pail and taking out a full bag in the morning, and making sure you start the day with the changing table refreshed, well-stocked, and organized.
If you need a snack or assistance overnight as you recover from birth or breastfeed, she will take care of that as well. Should baby have any diaper related leaks, blowouts, etc she will clean up, change their crib or bassinet sheets, and will rinse as needed, then will start a load of laundry before departing in the morning.
The doula will also ensure she tidies up after herself, quietly making the daybed or, if on a couch, folding and storing the pillow, sheet, and blanket until the next night.
If you need more help with things around the house, we are happy to provide you with postpartum doula care in the day! We also offer the option to tack on a few hours at the start and end of a shift for additional tasks, support, and care for you, baby, and your family. -
We typically schedule 10-12 hour overnights in order to do our best work. Shorter shifts don’t allow us to do much sleep conditioning, as the natural night of a baby is 10-12 hours or more, so we want to ensure they, and you, have a full night of sleep support!
-
We understand that every family's needs are unique, and we're here to support you no matter how much care you book.
While we often provide support for 2-4 months, starting with 5-7 nights a week and tapering down as we help your baby to grow strong sleep habits, we're happy to accommodate shorter or longer durations depending on what works best for you.Even though many families book care in months, allowing for more seamless sleep conditioning and development of strong sleep habits, that isn’t feasible for every family we work with. Overnight care is an investment, and we understand that budget constraints may make it difficult to book a large amount of care. In those cases, we recommend booking a few nights a week for however long you're able, and we’ll help you to continue your baby’s sleep development on the nights between care.
We also routinely work with families with a temporary need. We can offer support for the immediate recovery weeks, post-cesarean, or during necessary travel of one parent.
We're here to help in any way we can! -
Simple! just reach out to us via our contact form or by phone or text to book your support, get to know us, or get answers to any questions we didn’t cover here!
To secure your care we will send you a contract to sign and an invoice for a retainer for 30-50% of services depending on the length of care and volume booked. -
As soon as you’re ready!
The majority of our clients begin looking into support in the early 2nd trimester, and secure our services between 20-32 weeks.
We also support many tired parents needing support ASAP. However, at times we will have only a limited amount of nights open for immediate support. -
For many families, scheduling will have some fluidity to it as your needs emerge and shift, especially if you’re brand new to this baby thing. We understand, and are flexible to ensure you have the care you need. We work with you to make a schedule that works for you.
We do prioritize our current clients for additional nights and extensions, sometimes needing to provide an additional person to your Serene Team to provide care for your expanding need. -
We provide both as needed care as well as regularly scheduled care.
We offer our best rates for those with longterm, consistent schedules. -
Our overnight caregivers are trained in infant CPR as well as safe sleep awareness.
-
If the doula you desire to work with us available, then typically, yes, they will provide at least some of your care as part of your doula team!
When available, we match repeat clients with the same caregivers that cared for their last baby. We also strive to ensure that our crossover clients (birth & overnight care) have continuity of care, as long as one or both of their birth doulas also provides night-time doula care. Outside of these circumstances, we can’t necessarily ensure, but do our absolute best. -
We typically work in teams for a more secure and safe coverage; ensuring you have appropriately well-rested care and assurance in the case of travel, schedule conflicts, and illness. We will begin to finalize your team in the month your baby is set to arrive, this way we don’t take a doula off of a family’s team should they choose to extend care. We match you based on the needs shared in your intake call, the strengths of the doulas, location, and availability. We are confident you’ll love everyone on our team, and if needed can provide changes, alternates, and backup.
We work hard to ensure seamless care, communication, and consistency within the team that supports you. Behind the scenes the doulas stay in contact with their team for each client, providing each-other with updates and info to give the best possible care!
Most of our clients will work with 2-4 caregivers, for example a client booking 3-5 nights a week of care will likely need just two regular doulas, while someone needing 7 nights a week and the occasional day may have 4 or more doulas. For last minute care 7 nights a week, we may need to have a team on the larger end, with 5-6 caregivers to accommodate the immediate start! -
We don’t typically find that families want less rest than they planned for, and most often we’re adding on care, not the opposite! If we think you’re overbooking, we will recommend less and advise on options to extend if needed.
Buttttt if you do somehow end up with a surplus of care booked, we will work with you to spread care out or allow for a transfer to travel care, live-in care, or you could even gift a few remaining hours!
